Gritt Raises $32M for AI Robots to Speed Up Solar Farm Construction
AI robots integrate with existing construction equipment to place solar panels four times faster.
1Gritt's AI Robots
Gritt's AI robots integrate with existing construction equipment to place solar panels four times faster. These systems use robotic arms mounted on standard forklifts and skid steers.
2$32 Million Investment
San Francisco-based Gritt raised a combined $32 million in pre-seed and Series A funding. The Series A round was led by Obvious Ventures, with participation from Union Square Ventures and Active Impact Investments.
3Efficiency Gains
Gritt's systems enable an eight-person crew to place 3,000-4,000 panels daily, compared to 800 panels manually. The company claims to have placed tens of thousands of panels with zero breakages.
4Expanding Market
Gritt has contracts to help install nearly 3 gigawatts of solar capacity over the next 18 months. Its customers include three of the top 10 US power construction companies.
5Demographic Shift in Construction
Over 41% of the US construction workforce is expected to retire by 2031, increasing the need for robotic solutions in an industry struggling to attract younger workers.
6Future Plans
Gritt plans to expand into drilling, rebar tying, and assembly tasks beyond solar panels. The company differentiates itself by leveraging existing equipment to reduce costs.
