Movies become more cinematic, games more immersive. This size is particularly impressive for group viewings like sports events. However, prices increase significantly with screen size, making the right choice crucial. ## Evaluation Criteria TVs were assessed based on picture quality, smart features, and value for money. We compared QLED and OLED technologies, testing brightness levels, contrast ratios, and color performance. Gaming modes and operating system usability were also key considerations in our testing. ## Best Overall Performance The TCL QM7K QLED emerged as the best 85-inch TV for most users. Priced around $1,500, its Mini LED-backlit QLED panel reaches 1,800 nits brightness. It delivers impressive HDR performance and supports 144Hz refresh rate for gaming. The Google TV interface operates smoothly without significant glitches. ## OLED's Deep Blacks For deeper blacks and wider viewing angles, we recommend the Samsung S90F OLED. Its pixel-level dimming provides perfect contrast. While more expensive, it showcases OLED's advantages especially in dark room viewing conditions, making it ideal for cinephiles. ## Budget-Friendly Option The TCL QM6K offers great value at about $1,000 for 85 inches. Its Mini LED QLED panel delivers wide color gamut and good contrast. The matte screen coating reduces glare in bright rooms, while 144Hz gaming support is rare in this price range. ## Premium Mini LED Experience The TCL X11L 4K SQD TV stands out in the high-end Mini LED category. Its SQD (Super Quantum Dot) technology provides excellent color accuracy and brightness. It particularly shines with HDR content and offers professional calibration options for film enthusiasts. ## Luxury OLED Choice The LG G5 4K OLED ranks among the best premium 85-inch TVs. Designed for home theater enthusiasts, it offers perfect black levels and wide viewing angles. Features like Dolby Vision IQ and Filmmaker Mode ensure faithful reproduction of creators' intent. ## Technology Comparison QLEDs offer higher brightness at more affordable prices, while OLEDs excel in contrast and viewing angles. Mini LED strikes a balance between the two. The best choice depends on viewing habits and budget considerations. ## Gaming Performance Most tested TVs support 120Hz or higher refresh rates, with TCL models reaching 144Hz for PC gamers. Game mode menus, input lag, and VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) features are critical for performance-oriented players. ## Smart Platforms Platforms like Google TV and webOS significantly impact user experience. TCL's Google TV interface was praised for its speed and intuitiveness, while LG's webOS stands out with extensive app support. Voice assistant integrations enhance usability. ## Buying Tips Consider room size and lighting conditions when choosing a large-screen TV. High-nit models suit bright rooms, while OLEDs perform best in dark environments. Warranty periods and panel longevity are important for long-term satisfaction. ## Future TV Technology As of 2026, Mini LED and QD-OLED dominate the 85-inch+ TV market. Prices are becoming more accessible, bringing these large screens to more homes. Advanced features like 8K resolution and enhanced HDR formats continue to enrich the home theater experience. ## Sources covering this story - https://www.businessinsider.com/guides/tech/best-85-inch-tv — --- _Summary written by Brifing from the original reporting.
